Railteco's Landmark Tram Overhaul Project
On July 29, the delivery ceremony for the first overhauled Shanghai tram was successfully held at the bogie manufacturing division of Railteco. Attended by leaders from Shanghai Railway Corporation and Railteco, the event marked the official acceptance of the tram, which completed a full-process overhaul spanning more than two months and is set to resume operational service on urban lines.
This tram overhaul project represents Railteco’s landmark breakthrough in the urban rail maintenance sector, with no mature industrial experience available for reference. Facing the challenge of zero foundational experience, all personnel including management, technical staff and frontline workers participated in on-site practical training guided by technicians from Shanghai Tongshen Urban Rail Transit Operation Co., Ltd. The team thoroughly mastered the full overhaul procedures, technical specifications and acceptance criteria, achieving a rapid leap from zero foundation to standardized operation within just two months.
To guarantee professional and high-quality maintenance, Railteco independently developed dedicated equipment tailored to tram structural characteristics, including specialized car jacks, elevated working platforms and rain test detection devices. This initiative fully addressed the previous shortages of professional operation support and exclusive testing equipment, greatly enhancing operational convenience and standardization, and building a solid hardware foundation for reliable overhaul quality.
Throughout the project, the management team remained stationed on-site to coordinate daily scheduling, track progress in real time, and resolve process connection issues promptly, embedding safety and quality control into every operational procedure. Frontline staff strictly followed standardized overhaul workflows and technical requirements for meticulous implementation, ensuring 100% compliance of all maintenance procedures.
At the ceremony, the general manager of Shanghai Railway Corporation highly recognized the overhaul results, stating that the delivery of the first vehicle lays a solid foundation for subsequent batch maintenance cooperation. Railteco’s chairman noted that the project has greatly advanced the company’s comprehensive tram overhaul capacity, further implementing its development strategy of expanding from overseas to domestic urban rail markets.
Moving forward, Railteco’s bogie manufacturing division will formalize standardized operation and equipment management specifications cultivated from this project, continuously cultivate professional technical talents and optimize operational models to underpin the high-quality delivery of subsequent batch overhaul tasks in Shanghai.
